We first stumbled upon Blue Majik when we were looking for healthy vegan latte recipes. Matcha Mylk Bar from Australia featured the most delicious Smurf Latte and we knew we needed to get our hands on some Blue-Green algae to create our own. We walked into the health food store to a price tag of…. a lot more than we wanted to spend for a superfood we’ve never tried before! We did some research and realized that there were little to no opportunities to try samples of superfoods before buying the real thing! And if you value your hard-earned money but also want to maintain optimal health, paying $50+ for a product that you have no idea about, well, that’s a hard pill to swallow. And believe it or not, that’s how Rosehive Superfoods Box started! Rosehive Superfoods Box is a way to discover these foods in a sample size without the high cost of committing to a product until you have had the chance to try it. Discovering new foods becomes a culinary experience, a passport for your senses, and a way to pollinate your soul.

If you follow health food trends, you might have noticed that Blue Majik is popping up everywhere! It is a component in smoothie bowls, fresh-pressed juices, protein powders, frozen mixed drinks, and even healthy snacks! So what is Blue Majik anyway?
What is Blue-Green Algae?
It’s basically an algae. In technical terms….Blue Majik is a proprietary 100% Certified Organic extract of Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis), a Nutrient Dense AquaBotanical™. Blue Majik is a proprietary extract of the blue-green algae Arthrospira platensis. Its stunning blue pigment is made up primarily of C-Phycocyanin, a type of storage protein rich in amino acids derived from the more popular algae known as spirulina. Much like green spirulina, Blue Majik is known for being nutrient dense; full of vitamins (especially B12), enzymes, and minerals, which makes it a perfect addition to the Rosehive Superfoods Box!
Benefits of Blue-Green Algae:
Studies show C-phycocyanin to be rich in antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties, and it may promote brain health. It is a powerful antioxidant which has the ability to quench free radicals and is a potent natural COX-2 inhibitor.
Blue-Green Algae Recipes:
On it’s own, Blue-Green algae smells and tastes kind of fishy. But when it’s mixed in a smoothie, or with sweets, the flavor is masked. Here are a few of recipes we love and a great way to fit your superfoods in while having some fun in the kitchen!

2. Moon Juice’s Blue Adaptogen is another brand we love. Ingredients: Activated Brown Rice Protein, Chia Seeds, Tocotrienols, Blue Majik, Stevia. It doesn’t have the bright blue kick to it but it does have the powerful benefits of Blue Majik in it! And because it’s mixed with rice protein, it gives a really delicious creamy flavor perfect for smoothies!
