Black Raspberry Switchel, An All Natural Electrolyte Drink Recipe

Switchel is a refreshing drink that dates back to the 1700s, when farmers enjoyed the drink on the fields as a way to cool down during hot days. Today, switchel is making a resurgence, t’s become a popular beverage and for good reason: with inflammation-reducing apple cider vinegar, one of my favorite natural remedies, it’s an easy-to-make drink brimming with healing ingredients. Black Raspberry Switchel Recipe

A NATURAL ELECTROLYTE DRINK: Switchel is a refreshing drink that dates back to the 1700s, when farmers enjoyed the drink on the fields as a way to cool down during hot days. Now, it’s making a comeback! With rich black raspberry flavor this cooling drink is full of potassium and naturally occurring electrolytes, making it the perfect natural Gatorade. The best part? You might already have most of the ingredients in your pantry!

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup Kevala Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother
  • ⅓ cup raw honey or real maple syrup
  • 1 cup blackberries, halved OR
  • 1-2 packets of BerriHealth Black Raspberry Powder
  • 8 cups filtered water
  • Optional: fresh grated ginger or lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a half-gallon mason jar or large pitcher.
  2. Cover with lid and shake to combine.
  3. Place your switchel in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours.
  4. Strain if needed, and serve cold over ice or warm.
  5. *Add more water to dilute if needed.

One of switchel’s most important ingredients is Apple Cider Vinegar. This popular vinegar is known for being one of those old fashioned home remedies, an elixir of sorts. Apple cider vinegar is rich in potassium which is vital to our body and is loaded with enzymes, minerals and probiotics. It’s known to help support digestion and the immune system.
