Spirulina is a cyanobacteria once coveted by the Aztecs and is now considered one of the most nutritious food sources known to man. It was even called “the best food for the future” by the United Nations World Food Conference. This blue-green algae is a complete protein rich in B vitamins and has been reported to help correct anemia, reduce radioactive damage and lower cholesterol.

Here is a delicious superfood recipe by GlowBeautyWellness – the perfect healthy snack for your next Netflix binge.

  1. Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil into a large, deep pot. The oil should cover the bottom of the pot. Drop 3 kernels into the pot, cover, and turn the heat to medium-high.
  2. Once the kernels have popped, add the rest of the kernels and remove from heat to shake and coat all kernels in the coconut oil.
  3. Return the pot to the stove, over medium-high heat. Once the kernels begin to pop, shake the pot vigorously with the lid ajar until the pops start to slow (a couple of minutes).
  4. Turn the heat off and pour the popcorn into another bowl to cool.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon of Spirulina and 1 tablespoon of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt mixture over the popcorn.
  6. Mix well until the popcorn is evenly coated. Taste and add more salt as needed.

For extra flavor try adding a sprinkle of garlic powder, grated parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast flakes, dulse flakes, cayenne pepper, turmeric, chilli pepper, curry, or any other spice you choose to get creative with.
